CANBERRA BUYCYCLE is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Canberra.  It is an exciting bicycle market held annually in OCTOBER, where you can sell and buy pre-loved bicycles for a great price. Take a look at this video and see what we mean.

DONATE A BIKE

CANBERRA BUYCYCLE  presents you with the opportunity to sell or donate bikes that are probably cluttering up your garage and to turn those unwanted bikes into cash or even upgrade to another.

If you would like to donate a bike to Rotary, all you have to do is bring it along to The Fitters Workshop on SATURDAY  (OCT 19) between 11am and 4pm. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bikes that are unroadworthy (or bike parts), so brakes and gears do need to be in working order. That said, we don’t mind bikes with the odd flat tyre (or two), they just need to be rideable.

Finally, if you are going to donate a bike we’d appreciate if you could send us an email to canberrarotary@iinet.net.au advising of your intention to do so. This assists us with our event planning, so we know how many bike racks to set up and so forth. An email from intending donors is not essential, but it is helpful.

If you want to sell your bike, it STARTS HERE! List your bike(s) online NOW, before dropping them off at The Fitters Workshop on Saturday 19 October 2019, between 11am-4pm. Alternatively, you can register your bike for sale when you drop it off, but you may experience delays, so pre-registering online is strongly recommended. It costs just $5 per bike to register each bike for sale (non-refundable), with 15% of the sale price going to Rotary. You can pay via PayPal or use your credit card.

Selling

1.  List your bicycle online now

Complete as many fields as you can and if you wish, post a pic of your bike to attract potential buyers. After all, the more a buyer knows about your bike, the quicker it will sell. That said, if you can’t complete all the fields, that’s okay, as it will still make your bike drop-off much speedier. Alternatively, just bring your bike(s) into ‘Fitters’ on Saturday (between 11am-4pm) and you can register them in person.

2. If you want it to sell… price it well!

What would you pay for it?

When deciding how much you want to sell your bike for consider: how much you paid for it; its age and condition; and also how keen you are to sell it. Bottom line…be realistic! Don’t be a dreamer…no one will buy over-priced bikes. Suggested Pricing Guidelines

  • 1—3 years old: around 40 -50% off the original price
  • 4—7 years old: at least 70% off the original price
  • 8+ years 80% + off the original price

Experience tells us that Buycycle is the perfect market for bikes priced between $100 and $800. We successfully sell around 80% of bikes in this price range.

3. Have it looking good

  • Give your bike a clean before you bring it in. A well looked after bike is much more appealing than an obviously neglected one.
  • Ensure it’s mechanically sound and safe to ride

Still unsure? We hope to have some volunteer “experts” at our disposal who can advise you when you drop it off. Just ask to see if there is someone around who can help. If we spot a bike that we consider to be “unsafe” we will mark it as “Unrideable” on the sale documentation. These bikes can still be sold, but buyers will understand that they should not be ridden in their current condition.

4. How much does it cost to list and sell my bike?

  • An initial $5 (per bike) Listing Fee applies.
  • If your bike sells at Buycycle, the Rotary Club of Canberra will retain 15% of the sale price as its fee.
  • NO Listing Fee applies to Donated Bikes.

5. Do I have to attend Canberra Buycycle?

  • Not unless you want to. On sale day we’ll be doing real-time updates on this website (‘Look at the Bikes’ section), right up until 1pm, so you will be able check to see whether or not your bike has been sold. We will also advise you via email. That means it isn’t necessary for sellers to be present at the event.

6. What if my bike doesn’t sell?

  •  All you have to do is to keep checking the website (‘Look at the Bikes’ section) on Buycycle Day (until 1pm) to see whether or not your bike has a ‘sold’ banner across it. If your bike doesn’t sell, you must collect it between 1pm and 2.30pm on Buycycle Sunday. If your bike is not collected during this period, we’ll assume it is a donation to Rotary.

7. When and how do I get paid?

  • The Rotary Club of Canberra will endeavour to advance the proceeds of the sale of your bike(s) within 7 working days. We will pay you via your preferred payment method indicated on the registration form. This can be either to your nominated bank or PAYPAL account. Sorry, we can longer send cheques.

As the event gets closer and closer, sellers will continue to list their bikes, so it’s a good idea to keep checking this website regularly. Finding the right Bicycle on the day

When selecting your bike, please be mindful that BUYCYCLE is a market-style sale. These are used bikes and the price of the bike and all the details and information on the tag has been provided by the seller. We strongly recommend you “test ride” at the venue before you purchase. We accept Cash, Mastercard, Visa and PayPal.

  • Consider carefully what kind of bike you are looking for and what kind of riding you’ll be doing.
  • If you are undecided about a purchase, we’ll have a bike mechanic there on the day between 9am and 1pm to offer advice about suitability and road worthiness.
  • We’ll have bikes catering to just about every category – BMX, Mountain, Road, Kids and Classics.
  • Every bike is a “Bargain Bike” with prices starting from $10 up to four figures.
  • If you are “test riding” a bike in the approved section, please be mindful of other shoppers whilst considering your purchase or test riding.
  • Helmets are mandatory to test ride bicycles and whilst we’ll have a few “loan” helmets on hand, we would encourage you to bring your own.
  • The organisers strongly recommend you talk to our friends from PEDAL POWER too. The Pedal Power team will be only too happy to outline the many benefits of belonging to their organisation, including the accident insurance, that is included in membership.
  • Please also be aware that the organisers of CANBERRA BUYCYCLE cannot guarantee the condition of the bicycles and all bike sales are final. We also reserve the right to revise the pricing shown here on our donated bikes or at the sellers request, prior to the event.
